On 19 April 2026, Kathleen Sherwin, President and CEO of ORBIS International, visited an outreach eye screening programme in Rohingya Camp No. 10 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. The programme is being implemented by Alliance for Cooperation and Legal Aid Bangladesh (ACLAB) with support from ORBIS International.

The visit offered an opportunity to observe how community-based eye care services are reaching some of the most vulnerable populations through early screening, referral, and treatment pathways.

During the visit, Ms. Sherwin witnessed firsthand the ongoing efforts to improve access to essential eye care services for Rohingya refugees and host communities in the camp area.

Dr. Munir Ahmed, Country Director of ORBIS International Bangladesh, and Syed Tarikul Islam, Executive Director of ACLAB, were also present during the visit.

If you want it a bit more formal, warmer, or donor-focused, I can rewrite it in that style too.

ACLAB Launches Integrated Mental Health Support and Awareness Program Project to Support the Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being of Rohingya Children, Adolescents, and Youth at Rohingya Refugee Camps, Cox’s Bazar. With support of philanthropy initiative from the Global Development Consortium (GDC), ACLAB is implementing the project titled “Integrated Mental Health Support and Awareness Program (IMHSAP)” for Rohingya Children, Adolescents, and Youth” across 11 refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. Key activities including capacity building and training for local NGOs, CSOs, and volunteers; outreach through Mobile MHPSS Units and a dedicated hotline (+88 01766 406806); awareness campaigns via Radio Naf; and creative, recreational, and therapeutic activities such as art, storytelling, and music.

The project also establishes Peer Support Groups, child and adolescent mental health programs, family and community workshops, and robust monitoring and evaluation systems. Beneficiaries include over 3,50,000+ individuals across camps including Kutupalong, Nayapara, Camp-7, Camp-8W, Camp-15, Camp-19, Camp-21, Camp-22, Camp-24 (Leda) and Camp-25. On 25 February 2026, ACLAB organized an awareness orientation session in Cox’s Bazar with local CSO, NGO leaders and project staff. The event aimed to enhance their understanding of IMHSA needs, share field experiences, and foster a more empathetic service approach, ultimately strengthening mental health support for refugees and frontline workers alike.
