MoU signing ceremony held between BBC Media Action and Community Radio Naf 99.2 FM
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today in Cox’s Bazar between BBC Media Action and Community Radio Naf 99.2 FM. Under this MoU, programs produced under BBC Media Action’s ‘Youth Rise’ project will be broadcast on Radio Naf 99.2 FM for the next 3 years. In a ceremony organized on the occasion at a prestigious hotel in Cox’s Bazar, Country Director of BBC Media Action Md. Al Mamun and Chief Executive Officer of Radio Naf Syed Tariqul Islam signed the MoU. The youth of Cox’s Bazar should learn about the various job opportunities around them as well as acquire the necessary skills. This project named ‘Youth Rise’ is working with the aim of making them able to peacefully resolve their own or local conflicts.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, BBC Media Action Country Director Md Al Mamoon said, “We have worked with Naf in the past and are delighted to be partnering again. I believe Radio Naf’s community acceptance, combined with the BBC’s technical and programmatic expertise, will be a wonderful work. We hope to continue this work in the future.
On the other hand, Radio Naf CEO Syed Tariqul Islam thanked the BBC and said, “Radio is actually a development tool and community radio is a part of it. Community radio has been working in our country for many years very successfully. The promising thing is that our country’s government also has a very positive view of community radio. This is because community radio campaigns have reduced our loss of life and property during various calamities. So the role of radio in the community is many. We look forward to our partnership with the BBC enriching our work in the future.”
Khandaker Hasanul Banna, Senior Project Manager, BBC Media Action, said, “In ‘Youth Rise’ project, we wanted to work on inspiring events as well as the small things that create disagreement or conflict. Thanks to USAID for welcoming us to this initiative. Hopefully we will create some good work together.”
Also, senior officials of BBC Media Action and Radio Naf along with Md. Didarul Alam, Regional Coordinator of Radio Naf, Safat Ahmed, Project Manager of BBC Media Action, among others were present at the MoU signing ceremony.
